The OD CCR has set aside funds to assist investigators with the acquisition of various technologies that are listed on this page. Starting in FY 2011, subsidies in the amount of one-third (33%) the total cost will be granted for all microarray platforms, RNAi tools, and full microarray services. Subsidy for development of rabbit monoclonal antibodies (Abcam), digital gene expression profiling (Nanostring) and detection and quantification of small molecules present in complex biological specimens (Metabolon and HMT) will remain at 50%. Requests for Protein-Protein interactions screens through the Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) in Frederick will also be considered for subsidy. The amount of subsidy will be determined based on the nature of the project.
The total amount of subsidy available to each principal investigator for each fiscal year is capped at $10,000.
For special projects exceeding $10,000, investigators are encouraged to submit a brief proposal through the Resource Request System (RRS): http://ccrintra.cancer.gov/cms/login/login.asp. When logged into the RRS select "OSTR Technology Supplement."
How do I place an order using OSTR subsidy?
All orders should be submitted directly to the respective companies through the standard procurement process. In order to be eligible for the subsidy, investigators must fill in and submit a form PRIOR TO placing the order with the company. To get the form please click on the "Subsidy Request Form" button above.
You will receive an automated email notification whether the subsidy has been granted. Once the subsidy is approved, your purchasing agent (who will receive a separate email authorization) may place your order. Beginning in FY12, purchase agents will place the order for the full cost of the purchase against your laboratory CAN. When the order has been placed and is documented in SOFie or CMS Budget Reports, OSTR funds will be transferred in the amount of the approved subsidy to reimburse your laboratory CAN.
Purchase Requisitions MUST be entered into NBS by your purchasing agent or AO within 30 days of receipt of the automated email notification or the subsidy approval will be rescinded and NO reimbursement will occur. An email notification will be sent to the requesting investigator indicating the subsidy approval has been withdrawn. It is the responsibility of the purchasing agent or AO to work with the investigators to obtain price quotations and justifications for sole sourcing.
What services/technologies are supported with OSTR subsidy?
Several of the technologies/services listed here are provided by the laboratories of the Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) located at the ATRF in Frederick. DO NOT USE THE SUBSIDY REQUEST FORM FOR THESE SERVICES. To access these services, you must submit a request for a cost estimate through the Core Services Accession System (CSAS): http://web.ncifcrf.gov/rtp/csas/requestor/. OSTR subsidy is available from these CRTP laboratories:
- Genomics Laboratory (GL)
- Protein Expression Laboratory (PEL)
- Protein Characterization Laboratory (PCL)
- Electron Microscopy Laboratory (EML)
- CCR Sequencing Facility (SF)
The Ras Pivot has also resulted in the discontinuation of Office of the Director Research Support (ODRS) supplements for the Cancer Research Technology Program (formerly, ATP). However, CCR has replaced much of this support by increasing the funding available through the Office of Science and Technology Resources (OSTR); you will continue to access OSTR subsidies via the CSAS. Qualifying guidelines are available here. OSTR subsidy may also be applied to research services from outside vendors in the event that a CRTP service is delayed or unavailable. External vendor services can be found through the CCR Research Exchange (CREx).
